The Permaloo success story started with one simple vision: to design and build robust, versatile, and eco-friendly public toilets that enhance your environment
– not take away from it.
Permaloo was first introduced as a new product line for Permacrete, a company with a proud 50-year history of producing top quality concrete products. Kevin and Helen smith bought Permacrete in 1995 after recognising its potential as a family business for their four sons, Leighton, Ryan, Darren and Weston.
A commitment to research and development by the Smith family took Permacrete from strength to strength and Permaloo emerged as one of its most promising innovations. Sustainable, permanent, and custom designed for each specific environment, Permaloo public toilets quickly made a name for themselves and are now a standalone business run by brothers Ryan and Weston.
Permaloo has cemented its position as a leading provider of public toilet facilities for councils, government departments and other organisations throughout New Zealand, with a view to expand into Australia.

He’s an action man who thrives on the challenging and constructive nature of his role to get things done. Having been with Permacrete for 14 years and at the helm of Permaloo for five, Ryan’s industry knowledge and experience are invaluable. When he’s not working on public toilet projects, you’ll find him in on the beach, in his garden, or toiling away on his latest building project.

Weston looks after the sales and marketing side of the business, and lends his knowledge of concrete and construction methods to new public toilet designs and installations. In his spare time, Weston enjoys surfing, cars, travelling, working on his house, and spending time with family.
Leighton’s engineering and design background is invaluable to Permaloo, and he relishes the challenge of developing new products and methods of manufacture. His work behind the scenes has helped build Permaloo’s well-known and respected reputation for quality, innovative public toilet facilities. Leighton’s number one motivator is his family and outside of work he enjoys family outings or a spot of fishing.
As director of Permaloo’s parent company, Permacrete, and father to Ryan, Weston and Leighton, Kevin brings a wealth of experience to the business. Permaloo is built on the Smith family values of integrity, dependability and trust, and Kevin has enjoyed seeing its custom public toilet designs grow and develop. His plan is to gradually step back from the business and let the next generation take over, leaving him more time for his passions – travel, church, and volunteering.
