Taupo District Council chose Permaloo to create a three pan, odour-free, dry vault public toilet for its busy campground at Reid’s Farm Recreation Reserve.

The Challenge

Reid’s Farm campground had very busy peak seasons and no power on-site. There were two existing vault tanks, which had been installed many years ago and were not level or in line, so a new three-pan dry vault public toilet facility had to be engineered around these. This was also a tricky site for crane access.

The Solution

Permaloo supplied and installed one new vault tank next to the two existing tanks and poured a concrete slab over all three to create a level platform for the new public toilet facility. Permaloo’s proven vault ventilation system was installed to eliminate odours. Other features included robust polycarbonate, obscure windows to provide natural lighting yet privacy, a full concrete mono pitch roof with concrete partition walls, and gloss white wall tiles for easy cleaning and to maximise light inside the cubicles.

The Result

Reid’s Farm now has a user-friendly, wheelchair compliant, dry vault public toilet facility, which is odour-free, easy to clean, and low maintenance. The blank concrete walls were the perfect canvas for a local artist to create beautiful murals, which enhance the area and help prevent graffiti. Campers have been impressed by such nice facilities in a free campground and Taupo District Council plans to install more dry vault Permaloo units at Reid’s Farm and around busy lakeside areas.

“We have had nothing but praise for the Permaloo unit and are planning more for our lakefront and picnic areas in the new financial year.” – Neville Brodie, Taupo District Council
